Preview Roundups
March 14, 2017
Winnipeg at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
Little is at stake when the New Jersey Devils host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday in a matchup of slumping clubs and with a major snowstorm expected to dump a foot or so on the greater New York City area, the seats could be nearly empty. New Jersey extended its losing streak to 10 games (0-8-2) with a 5-4 loss in Arizona on Saturday while Winnipeg dropped a 5-4 overtime decision in Nashville on Monday for its fourth straight loss (0-3-1).
Minnesota at Washington 7:00 PM ET
Two of the top NHL's top teams throughout the majority of the season will face off at the Verizon Center on Tuesday, although neither the Washington Capitals or Minnesota Wild have played much like it of late. Mired in a season-high four-game losing skid, the Washington Capitals will look to return to their winning ways against a Western Conference-leading Minnesota Wild team that has lost four of six.
NY Islanders at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
The Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their offensive onslaught against the New York Islanders when they host the back end of the home-and-home set Tuesday night. The Hurricanes, who are in the bottom third of the league in scoring, recorded 20 goals in three victories over the Islanders this season after getting a hat trick from defenseman Jaccob Slavin in an 8-4 win Monday.
Chicago at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens are trying to protect a slim lead atop the Atlantic Division while the Chicago Blackhawks are attempting to overtake the Minnesota Wild in the Central. Against that backdrop, the Blackhawks will kick off a three-game road trip with a visit to Montreal in a matchup of two teams that have won eight of their last 10 games.
Tampa Bay at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The surging Ottawa Senators open an important three-game homestand in their quest for the Atlantic Division title when they host the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. The Senators trail first-place Montreal by two points with a pair of games in hand as they attempt to extend a season-high six-game winning streak, in which opponents managed only 11 goals.
Toronto at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs have recovered from a five-game losing streak to claw back into postseason contention, but a similar skid may have doomed the playoff chances of the Florida Panthers. Toronto, which is clinging to the second wild card in the Eastern Conference, goes for its fourth straight win when it visits the Panthers on Tuesday night.
Dallas at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers have seen their high-octane offense sputter of late during their season-high eight-game homestand, and their once-promising playoff aspirations have dimmed a bit as well. With just four goals over their last three contests (0-2-1) and 10 losses in their last 17 (7-9-1), the Oilers look to get it in gear against the NHL's second-most generous team in terms of goals allowed (3.24) on Tuesday when they host the Dallas Stars.
Arizona at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings try to bounce back from a potentially devastating blow to their Western Conference playoff hopes when they host the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. Los Angeles had a chance to get within one point of St. Louis for the final wild-card spot, but instead lost 3-1 to the Blues at home Monday to drop five points off the pace, leaving the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup champion in jeopardy of missing the postseason for the second time in three seasons.
Buffalo at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres have endured more than their fair share of troubles against the rest of the NHL over recent seasons, but they have had no issue taking out their frustrations on the San Jose Sharks. Boasting a 10-0-1 mark in the last 11 encounters, the Sabres look to maintain their mastery of the Sharks and end a four-game road losing skid on Tuesday when the clubs meet at the SAP Center.
