Blues 4, Capitals 1: Jaden Schwartz extended his point streak to six games by matching captain David Backes and Patrik Berglund with a goal and an assist as host St. Louis posted its 10th victory in 11 contests.

Jori Lehtera tallied to run his point streak to seven games for the Blues, who completed a 4-1-0 homestand. Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk notched a pair of assists and Brian Elliott turned aside 23 shots.

Joel Ward netted the lone goal for the Capitals, who were blanked at home by New Jersey on Friday. Justin Peters made 30 saves as Washington lost to St. Louis for just the second time in six meetings.

Lehtera opened the scoring at 9:11 of the first period with his fifth goal in four games. Unable to get off a shot, Schwartz made a backhand pass from below the left faceoff circle to Lehtera, who beat Peters from the slot.

Ward forged a tie 6:38 into the second with a shot from the top of the left circle that handcuffed Elliott, but Schwartz backhanded a rebound past Peters while battling Washington defenseman Karl Alzner in front six minutes later. Berglund pounced on a loose puck after Peters fanned on a pass attempt from behind his own net and tapped it to Backes, who buried it from the left circle 12 seconds into the third, before converting a cross-slot pass from T.J. Oshie with 3:19 remaining to seal the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Blues RW Vladimir Tarasenko had his seven-game point streak snapped. ... Backes' goal was his fifth of the season but first at even strength. His first four tallies came on the power play. ... Ward's tally was his eight of the campaign, tying him with LWs Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson for the team lead. ... St. Louis parted ways with D Jordan Leopold on Saturday, trading the veteran to Columbus for a 2016 fifth-round draft pick. The 34-year-old Leopold failed to record a point in seven games with the Blues this season.
