Panthers 3, Rangers 1: Jacob Markstrom turned aside a career-high 44 shots and defenseman Brian Campbell scored his sixth power-play goal as visiting Florida won its second straight contest following a six-game winless streak (0-5-1).

Scottie Upshall also scored and Tomas Kopecky sealed the victory with a short-handed, empty-net goal for the Panthers, who snapped a three-game skid against the Rangers.

Marian Gaborik scored with 3:48 remaining to spoil Markstrom's bid for his first career shutout. Henrik Lundqvist finished with 21 saves for the Rangers, who have mustered just seven goals en route to losing four of their last six games.

Campbell opened the scoring at 8:22 of the first period, when his slap shot from just inside the left faceoff circle beat Lundqvist over his left shoulder. Upshall doubled the advantage 4:28 into the second by poking home a loose puck after Jack Skille was denied by Lundqvist from in close.

Gaborik trimmed the deficit to 2-1 after accepting Rick Nash's stretch pass and backhanding the puck into the net.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Veteran RW Alex Kovalev officially has retired after 19 NHL seasons, the Miami Herald reported. The 40-year-old Kovalev played in just 14 games with the Panthers - with the last being a loss to Pittsburgh on Feb. 22. Kovalev collected 430 goals and 599 assists for the Panthers, Penguins, Rangers, Canadiens and Senators. ... New York's John Tortorella was denied in his bid for his 400th coaching victory. He has 160 with the Rangers ... Nash played in his 700th career game and captain Ryan Callahan celebrated his 28th birthday on Thursday.
