Fatts Russell scored 23 points and freshman Julian Reese added a career-high 13 points, all in the first half, as Maryland snapped a five-game losing streak with a 90-74 win over Nebraska on Friday in Lincoln, Neb.

Donta Scott added 15 points and seven rebounds and had much to do with the Terrapins' 46-28 edge on points in the paint. Maryland's Hakim Hart added 11 points, hitting all four of his shots from the floor.

In beating the Cornhuskers for the fourth straight time, Maryland (12-14, 4-11 Big Ten) made 52.5 percent of its shots from the floor and committed just four turnovers.

Ian Martinez (10 points) and Xavier Green gave Maryland a lift in the second half. Martinez had back-to-back steals that produced breakaway scores on a windmill slam dunk and a three-point play. Green added a pair of 3-pointers as the Terps pushed their lead to 20 points.

Nebraska had a late 12-2 run, whittling the deficit to 10 points, but got no closer.

Nebraska (7-19, 1-14) lost for the 12th time in its past 13 games. Bryce McGowens led the Cornhuskers with 25 points. Alonzo Verge Jr. added 14 points and five assists on a night when he was limited by foul trouble.

The Cornhuskers led by five points on three occasions in the first half. But during a span of 8 1/2 minutes that bridged the halves, they made just one field goal, and Maryland took advantage.

In the first three minutes of the second half, Scott scored six points, including two on a breakaway dunk that gave the Terps a 54-43 lead.

Reese excelled before intermission. His three-point play capped a 7-0 run that gave Maryland its first lead of the game midway through the half.
