Koby McEwen scored 28 points and Marquette used a second-half surge to hold off Green Bay 82-68 on Tuesday in Milwaukee.

The Golden Eagles (4-1), coming off a thrilling, final-second win over Wisconsin on Friday, struggled with the winless Phoenix for more than a half.

Behind 22 points from PJ Pipes, Green Bay (0-4) trailed by just seven points at halftime. Marquette pushed its lead to 14 points before a 10-0 Phoenix run slashed the margin to four.

Marquette's defense tightened up over the last 8 1/2 minutes, holding the Phoenix to just 13 points the rest of the way. The Golden Eagles took control down the stretch, capitalizing on Green Bay's 39.7 percent shooting from the floor on the night.

Dawson Garcia finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for Marquette, joining McEwen as the only Golden Eagles to score in double figures. McEwen produced a personal high since transferring to Marquette; he scored 32 points in a game for Utah State in February 2018.

McEwen also dished a team-high four assists. Theo John grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with eight points for the Golden Eagles. D.J. Carton scored nine points and handed out three assists, and Jamal Cain finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Josh Jefferson and Japannah Kellogg III joined Pipes in double-figure scoring for Green Bay with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Pipes led the Phoenix with seven rebounds, Jefferson led all players with six assists, and Green Bay committed just five turnovers as a team.

Jefferson and Pipes combined to make 7 of 21 3-point attempts, but the rest of the Phoenix went just 1 of 6 from beyond the arc. Three-point shooting helped push Marquette down the stretch, meanwhile, as the Golden Eagles shot 6 of 9 from deep in the second half.

McEwen set the pace with 5-of-9 shooting from outside on the game while Cain and Garcia both went 2 of 3. The Golden Eagles shot 53.6 percent from the floor after intermission and 48.4 percent for the game.
