C.J. Bryce scored 18 points and Braxton Beverly racked up 15 points with a smooth perimeter stroke as North Carolina State defeated host Wake Forest 91-82 in a game marred by an injury in the final minute Saturday afternoon at Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Wolfpack (7-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), playing in its first true road game of the season, held a double-figure lead for most of the final 30 minutes.

Markell Johnson tallied 14 points, while Jericole Hellems (13), Devon Daniels (12), and DJ Funderburk (11) added to N.C. State's balanced scoring.

N.C. State made 12 shots from 3-point range, including four by Beverly.

Brandon Childress pumped in 30 points for Wake Forest (5-5, 0-2 ACC), which lost its third consecutive game after a three-game winning streak. Olivier Sarr added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.

Beverly hit a couple of 3-pointers as the Wolfpack stretched its lead to 67-51 midway through the second half. Childress drained a 3 with 29 seconds left to close the gap to 85-80.

That was followed by an extended delay as Hellums, who was crushed on a scramble for the ball, was taken off the court on a stretcher.

Wake Forest is 0-2 in ACC play for the fifth time in a six-season span.

N.C. State broke out to a 14-4 lead in less than six minutes.

It was 43-28 before Wake Forest posted eight straight points before consecutive turnovers prevented a stronger comeback. Bryce scored off a rebound for the final bucket of the first half.

N.C. State's 45-36 halftime lead, marking its most first-half points this season, came in part because of Wake Forest's 12 turnovers.

The Wolfpack quickly re-established a double-figure margin early in the second half.

N.C. State did have snags, committing 17 total turnovers after 13 giveaways in its previous two games combined.

This was only the third time in the last 15 regular-season meetings between N.C. State and Wake Forest that the visiting team won.

Wake Forest had played its previous six games away from home. The outcome marked its first loss in three home outings.
