No. 2 Arizona 79, Texas Tech 58: Freshman forward Aaron Gordon scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the host Wildcats jumped on the Red Raiders from the start.

Brandon Ashley added 18 points and 10 rebounds, helping Arizona (8-0) to a 43-23 advantage on the glass. Nick Johnson added 18 points for the Wildcats, shooting 4-for-6 from 3-point range.

Kader Tapsoba scored 13 points off the bench to lead Texas Tech (6-3). Jaye Crockett added 11 points and Aaron Ross scored 10 in a reserve role for the Red Raiders.

Arizona opened the game with a 10-0 run and held the same size advantage at the half. The Red Raiders shot 32 percent in the opening half and second-leading scorer Jordan Tolbert picked up his third foul with five minutes remaining.

The Wildcats quickly stretched the advantage to 20 as Tolbert committed his fourth foul with 16:39 remaining and Ashley made both free throws for a 47-27 lead. Arizona guard T.J. McConnell, a junior transfer from Duquesne, added a season-high 10 assists.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Arizona’s starting frontcourt of Ashley, Gordon and Kaleb Tarczewski combined to outrebound their counterparts, Crockett, Tolbert and Dejan Kravic, 23-8. … Ashley is the son of Damon Ashley, who played at Texas Tech from 1991-93. … Arizona’s bench came in outscoring its opponents' reserves by an average of 9.4 points, but the Wildcats bench was outscored by Texas Tech 36-17.
