Ryan Arcidiacono scored 15 points to help the host Wildcats stun the Cardinals in Big East play.

Darrun Hilliard, JayVaughn Pinkston and Mouphtaou Yarou added 11 points apiece as Villanova (12-7, 3-3 Big East) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Wayne Blackshear scored 17 points and Peyton Siva had 15 points and a career-high 13 assists for Louisville (16-3, 4-2), which has lost back-to-back contests following an 11-game winning streak that propelled the Cardinals to No. 1 in the nation.

Louisville led 52-46 after Gorgui Dieng’s basket with 8:28 to play. Villanova answered with seven straight points to start a 13-1 run and 3-pointers by Achraf Yacoubou and James Bell gave the Wildcats a 59-53 lead with just under three minutes left. Villanova led by as many as 12 in the final minute.

The Wildcats had a 23-13 first-half lead after Tony Chennault drained a 3-pointer with 8:30 left. The Cardinals answered with 12 straight points to take a two-point lead before Villanova closed strongly for a 30-28 lead at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Cardinals are 2-3 when allowing 70 or more points. … Bell had 10 points to give the Wildcats five players in double figures. … Louisville was 7-of-18 from the free-throw line in the second half and 12-of-24 overall. Villanova was 22-for-29 overall and hit 18 of 22 foul shots in the second half.
