Winthrop 74, Auburn 67: Joab Jerome scored a season-high 16 points and the visiting Eagles held on after nearly blowing a double-digit lead to upend the Tigers.

Christian Farmer hit four 3-pointers and added a season-best 15 points for Winthrop (5-5), which won for the third time in four games.

The Eagles broke open a close game with a 13-2 second-half run. Tied at 39-39 six minutes into the half, Winthrop got back-to-back 3-pointers from Farmer to start the run, building a 52-41 advantage on Andre Smith’s 3-pointer with 11:07 to go.

The Tigers (5-6) trailed 68-56 with 3:23 remaining, but rallied to pull within 70-67 on Allen Payne’s steal and layup with 33 seconds left. However, free throws from Smith and Derrick Henry sealed the victory for Winthrop.

Frankie Sullivan led Auburn with 22 points while Chris Denson added 18 points for the Tigers, whose three-game winning streak ended.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jordan Price entered the game with an SEC-record tying 11 consecutive 3-pointers made, but the freshman missed his first attempt with 14:55 remaining. … The Tigers will not play again until hosting No. 10 Illinois on Dec. 29. … Sullivan rebounded from a three-point performance Tuesday against Tennessee Tech, finishing 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.
