Minnesota 72, Richmond 57: Rodney Williams Jr. scored 15 points and Andre Hollins produced nine of his 14 in a second-half run that upended the visiting Spiders.

Austin Collins scored 13 points and Joe Coleman had 10 for Minnesota (4-0).

Derrick Williams had 16 points to lead the way for Richmond (3-1). Kendall Anthony contributed 13 for the Spiders, who shot 22-for-66 from the field (33 percent).

After trailing by as many as nine points in the first half, the Golden Gophers took a one-point lead into the break. A 9-0 run by Richmond put the Spiders back ahead at 49-42 with 10 minutes remaining, but Minnesota answered with a 12-0 run of its own.

Andre Hollins sparked the run by scoring nine unanswered points for Minnesota. His 3-pointer gave the Golden Gophers the lead for good at 51-49, and another 3-pointer with 3:53 remaining stretched the lead to 61-53.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Darien Brothers, the lone returning starter from the 2010-11 Richmond team that reached the Sweet 16, struggled from the floor. He came in averaging 19.7 points and shooting 59.4 percent from the field, but finished 1-for-11 with two points. … Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe, who is coming back from a season-ending knee injury last November, recorded season highs of nine points, 12 rebounds and 27 minutes of playing time. … The Golden Gophers host No. 9 Duke on Thursday.
