South Florida 78, Maryland Eastern-Shore 59: Toarlyn Fitzpatrick made seven of his eight field-goal attempts and scored 16 points to lead the Bulls over the Hawks in the opening game of the USF Invitational.

Anthony Collins added 13 points to propel South Florida to its first win of the season. Collins was 4-of-6 from the field for the Bulls (1-1), including an early 3-pointer that helped USF take control of the game. He was also 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Ron Spencer pitched in 14 points and Troy Snyder added 12 for Maryland-Eastern Shore (0-4), which jumped out to a 6-0 advantage but never regained the lead after Collins' 3 just over three minutes into the game.

The Bulls outrebounded the Hawks 42-31 after struggling in the opener against Central Florida, leading to 36 points in the paint.

Senior Jawanza Poland, who led South Florida with 22 points in the loss to the Knights, contributed nine points in the first regular-season win for the Bulls in the newly renovated USF Sun Dome.

GAME NOTEBOOK: South Florida shot an improved 48.4 percent for the game after an underwhelming 36.4 percent against UCF ... Fitzpatrick scored seven consecutive points as part of an early 15-0 run for USF that swung things in its favor for good.
