Elijah Johnson scored a career-high 23 points to help No. 14 Kansas hold off UCLA 72-56 in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational on Tuesday.

Thomas Robinson added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Tyshawn Taylor chipped in 13 points and six assists for the Jayhawks (3-1), who will take on No. 6 Duke on Wednesday in the championship game.

Kansas shot out to a 43-26 lead at the half as the Bruins shot 27 percent in the period. Johnson’s 3-pointer with 15:53 left extended the lead to 51-31. But UCLA, which has yet to beat a Division I opponent this season, showed some fight down the stretch.

Reeves Nelson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to highlight a 12-0 run over the next four minutes, cutting the deficit to single digits. Jerime Anderson’s 3-pointer with 8:02 left brought the Bruins within 57-52 with 8:02 to play.

UCLA seemed to run out of gas at that point, making one field goal the rest of the way as the Jayhawks pulled away.

Tyler Lamb scored 15 points and Anderson finished with 14 for the Bruins (1-3), who will face No. 15 Michigan in the consolation game on Wednesday.
