TENNESSEE 73, SOUTH CAROLINA 64: Trae Golden scored 21 points as the Volunteers remained in the hunt to finish fourth in the SEC with their 11th consecutive victory over the host Gamecocks.

Ten of those losses to Tennessee have come during the tenure of coach Darrin Horn, who may not have another chance to end the streak unless these two teams meet in the SEC tournament. South Carolina went 21-10 in Horn’s first season on the job, but has won only 39 games in nearly three full seasons since.

Golden, the third-ranked free-throw shooter in the league, made 8 of 9 and posted his highest point total in an SEC game this season.

Jordan McRae added 16 points and a season-high eight rebounds while Jeronne Maymon scored 14 for the Volunteers (16-13, 8-6 SEC), who stayed tied with Alabama for fourth place.

Bruce Ellington scored 19 and Malik Cooke 17 for the Gamecocks (10-18, 2-12).

South Carolina closed the first half on a 6-0 run to trail 34-32 at the break but the Gamecocks missed 12 of their first 16 shots in the second half as Tennessee built a double-digit lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
South Carolina remains in last place in the SEC and after Georgia’s upset of Florida, trails Auburn and Georgia by two games with two to play. … The Gamecocks have yet to score more than 66 points in an SEC game this season. … Tennessee made two more shots from the floor than South Carolina, even though the Gamecocks attempted 22 more field goals (68 to Tennessee’s 46).
