PURDUE 67, ILLINOIS 62: Robbie Hummel had 19 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season as the visiting Boilermakers swept the regular season series.

Purdue (17-9, 7-6 Big Ten) has won two straight for the first time since last December.

The Boilermakers led by as many as 13 in the first half, but a 10-0 run that started before the break and carried over into the second half allowed the Illini (16-10, 5-8) to move within 36-33.

D.J. Byrd scored all 13 of his points over the next eight minutes to make sure Purdue maintained its slight lead for the rest of the game until Hummel hit a pair of short jumpers and three free throws to close out the Illini.

The Boilermakers did a masterful job shutting down Illinois center Meyers Leonard by fronting him and getting strong backside defense as the Illini failed to threaten Purdue with 3-for-21 shooting from the 3-point line.

Leonard finished with nine points.

Tracy Abrams led all scorers with 22 points for the Illini, which has lost seven of eight and fell into a three-way tie for eighth in the conference with Minnesota and Northwestern.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Illinois made its first 3-point attempt then missed its next 10 tries. … Hummel moved into 15th place on the Boilermakers' scoring list. His two assists also allowed him to join Brad Miller as the only players in school history to amass 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 100 steals and 100 blocks.
