National Player of the Year candidate Doug McDermott scored 25 points and No. 12 Creighton jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first five minutes en route to a 102-74 victory over visiting Illinois State on Wednesday.

Illinois State never got closer than 13 in the second half as Creighton (21-2, 11-1 Missouri Valley) responded to every run.

McDermott was 9 for 11 from the field and made all three of his 3-point attempts.

Grant Gibbs had 12 points and seven assists and redshirt freshman Will Artino scored 11 points - his first time in double figures in an MVC game - as six players scored 10 or more points for the Bluejays.

Creighton led 51-30 at the break as the Bluejays knocked down 63 percent of their shots in the first half. Illinois State allowed only 40 total against Southern Illinois on Saturday.

Illinois State head coach Tim Jankovich burned his second time out less than five minutes in after Creighton made its first seven shots and took a 17-2 lead.

Taylor Brown scored 21 points for Illinois State (14-9, 6-6 MVC), which lost its 23rd straight game against a ranked opponent. Bryant Allen added 17 points. Leading scorer Jackie Carmichael fouled out with six points.

The loudest cheers of the game came as Creighton walk-on Ross Ferrarini hit back-to-back 3-pointers to help the Bluejays hit the century mark.

The last time Illinois State game up 100 points was in 1990 to Oklahoma.
