Darius Johnson-Odom scored 19 points and Davante Gardner added 17 as No. 22 Marquette defeated No. 21 Louisville, 74-63 at the Bradley Center.

The visiting Cardinals, who the last time the teams met won a blowout in the 2011 Big East Tournament quarterfinals, scored eight straight points and got to within 51-49 on a 3-pointer by Chris Smith with 10:54 left in the game. But Marquette scored 15 of the next 20 points, going up 66-54 on a put back by Jamil Wilson.

Louisville, which was playing without leading scorer Kyle Kuric (high ankle sprain) for the second consecutive game, started the day hitting 4 of 6 3-pointers, two each by Chris Smith and Russ Smith-and led 18-2 six minutes into the game.

Louisville’s lead was 30-23 after Russ Smith hit a bucket at the 3:52 mark, but the final four minutes of the half belonged to Marquette. Todd Mayo scored two of his eight first-half points off the bench and the Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game at 32-30 on Johnson-Odom’s pull-up jumper, part of an 11-0, half-ending run.

Russ Smith led all scorers with 20 points, but just seven came in the second half, and Chris Smith added 19.
