Harrison Barnes scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, and No. 6 North Carolina controlled throughout in an 82-63 victory over visiting Texas on Wednesday night.

Barnes added 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and fourth of his career for the Tar Heels (11-2), who won their fifth straight game.

North Carolina — which snapped a four-game losing streak against Texas with perhaps its best defensive performance of the season — also got 14 points and eight rebounds from John Henson.

Texas (9-3) snapped a seven-game winning streak with the loss, its first since exactly one month ago on Nov. 21.

J’Covan Brown and Jonathan Holmes had 16 points apiece to lead the Longhorns, who shot only 35 percent and trailed by double digits for the last 25 minutes of the game.

North Carolina went on a 15-7 run in the final eight minutes of the first half — highlighted by a thunderous P.J. Hairston fast-break dunk — to take a 39-23 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Tar Heels expanded their lead to 21 when Kendall Marshall found James McAdoo for a dunk that made it 50-29 with 16:16 remaining.

North Carolina will take eight days off for Christmas and then host Elon and Monmouth before the ACC schedule begins in January.
