Freshman Branden Dawson scored a season-high 16 points as No. 20 Michigan State blasted visiting UMKC 89-54 on Monday.

Brandon Wood added 16 points for the Spartans (10-2), who have won 10 straight to match their longest winning streak since December 2009-January 2010.

The Kangaroos (7-6) entered the game with wins in six of their last seven games, but Michigan State took control early as it never trailed and allowed only one field goal over the first 8:46 to jump out to a 16-2 lead.

The Spartans, who led by as many as 43, outscored UMKC 48-24 in the paint and shot 57.4 percent from the field.

Although leading scorer Draymond Green was held to only 10 points, his 11 rebounds allowed him to pass former Spartan great Bill Kilgore into eighth place on the school’s all-time list.

Trinity Hall, coming off a 27-point game in a win against Canisius, scored 16 points – one of only two players to finish in double digits for the Kangaroos, who shot only 34.5 percent.
