Jarell Eddie scored a career-high 24 points and Virginia Tech survived a slow start to earn a 73-60 victory over visiting Norfolk State on Sunday.

Eddie, who came in averaging 8.4 points, drained 5-of-6 from 3-point range and had seven rebounds as the Hokies (7-3) held off a late challenge by the Spartans.

Chris McEachin led Norfolk State (6-4) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kyle O’Quinn had 14 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 4:11 left.

Erick Green added 12 points and Cadarian Raines had 10 points and seven rebounds for Virginia Tech, which improved to 24-0 against Mid Eastern Athletic Conference teams.

Norfolk State led by as many as five points in the first half and had a 26-23 advantage before Virginia Tech finished strong for a 39-34 halftime lead. Eddie made all three of his 3-point attempts and had 12 points in the opening 20 minutes, in which the Hokies got 12 second-chance points.

Pendarvis Williams started fast with three 3-pointers and had 12 of his 14 points in the first half for Norfolk State. O’Quinn added 10 for the Spartans, who made 14-of-28 from the field before halftime.
