Kevin Jones scored a career-high 30 points and added 12 rebounds as West Virginia outlasted Kansas State, 85-80, in double overtime in Wichita, Kan., on Thursday.

Darryl Bryant chipped in 24 points for the Mountaineers (5-2).

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins was the head man at Kansas State in 2006-07, where current Wildcats head coach Frank Martin was his top assistant.

Jones locked it down for the Mountaineers in the second overtime, hitting a turnaround hook shot in the lane to give them the lead and sealing it with a pair of free throws with four seconds left.

Kansas State's Rodney McGruder had two open looks at a 3-pointer that would have kept the game going before Jones’ final free throws. McGruder would finish with 20 points for the Wildcats (5-1), who were one of 13 remaining unbeaten teams before the end.

Thomas Gipson turned a turnover into a basket for Kansas State late in regulation, fighting off two players for an offensive rebound and putting it back to make it 64-61 with 19 seconds on the clock.

But Jones used a jab step to clear the defender and buried a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left, sending the game to overtime.

McGruder’s jumper with nine seconds left in the first overtime extended it further.
