Joshua Lowery scored 13 points and Pepperdine went 8-for-11 from 3-point range to stun host Arizona State 66-60 Tuesday night.

The Waves, who struggled to fend off Division III Pomona-Pitzer in their season opener, led throughout the tight contest and put the game away at the free throw line in the closing minutes. Lowery, who was one of 10 players to score for Pepperdine (2-0), was 9-for-12 from the stripe.

The Sun Devils (1-1) got 23 points from second-team Pac-12 performer Trent Lockett but little else. Lockett went 8-for-11 from the floor but was the focus of the Waves' defense in the second half.

The rest of the Arizona State squad shot just 10-for-42 and Carrick Felix was the only other in double figures, with 12. Chris Colvin had eight points.

Pepperdine led 35-29 at the half. Taylor Darby finished with nine points as the West Coast Conference's Waves improved to 11-7 in the all-time series.
