Malcolm Grant scored a game-high 21 points and Miami survived some cold second-half shooting to turn back visiting Florida Gulf Coast 60-50 on Tuesday.

Miami (4-0) led by 18 after 20 minutes, but did not score for the first 6:55 of the second half and made only 4-of-24 from the field in the final 20 minutes.

The Eagles crept as close as seven before the Hurricanes were able to grind out the victory.

Sherwood Brown led the Florida Gulf Coast (2-3) with 19 points, including three 3-pointers in the second half.

Miami struggled to pull away early. The Eagles led by as many as four and trailed only 19-18 with 6:33 remaining in the first half before the Hurricanes responded with a 15-2 run and pushed their lead to 42-24 at halftime.

Grant led the way with 13 points in the first half, making three of his five 3-point attempts to extend his streak to 27 straight games with at least one from behind the arc.

Trey McKinney Jones had nine points and Shane Larkin eight off the bench and the Hurricanes held Florida Gulf Coast without a 3-point field goal in seven tries during the first 20 minutes.

Miami has won 26 straight non-conference games at home.
