D’Angelo Harrison scored 21 points and St. John’s snapped a two-game losing streak with a 63-48 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Tuesday.

Harrison has reached double figures in each of the first five games of his college career and emerged as the go-to scoring threat for a team loaded with freshmen.

That inexperience haunted St. John’s (4-2) in back-to-back losses to ranked opponents at Madison Square Garden last week, but winless St. Francis (0-4) provided the perfect opportunity to regain some offensive momentum.

Nurideen Lindsey, who missed two potential game-winning free throws in their last game, looked more comfortable at the point and helped the Johnnies bolt out to an early 14-3 lead.

Moe Harkless scored 18 points and Harrison hit 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

That proved to be more than enough against the Terriers, who saw leading scorer Travis Nichols score a season-low nine points on 4-for-16 shooting and miss all eight of his 3-point attempts.

The young St. John’s backcourt, which had been part of a defense giving up 76 points per contest, used traps and aggressive on-ball defenders to limit Nichols’ open looks.

That same strategy will be useful in the Johnnies’ upcoming games, including a Dec. 1 clash at No. 2 Kentucky.
