Kevin Jones scored 29 points to lead West Virginia to a bounce-back 97-62 win over Alcorn State.

Jones has dominated through the first week of the season, recording his second straight double-double Thursday by scoring 29 points and ripping down 13 rebounds. He gashed an Alcorn State team that showed no signs of returning fire. Every aspect of the senior forward’s game was on display from 3-point jumpers to splitting double-teams with lane-busting drives. His flurry of eight straight points sent the Mountaineers to an early lead and they never looked back.

West Virginia (2-1) will need Jones’ dominance, because its backcourt continued to commit costly turnovers. Two days after senior guard Truck Bryant gave the ball away six times in a shocking loss to Kent State, freshman Jabarie Hinds turned it over on five occasions against Alcorn State (1-1). The Mountaineers hit their average of 19 turnovers at home Thursday night after averaging just 8.8 per game last season.

Those turnovers were hardly a detriment against the Braves, who shot just 35 percent from the floor. Marquiz Baker led Alcorn with 12 points but made only 3 of 15 field goals.
