Jae Crowder scored 14 points, including a key 3-pointer with 1:26 left, as visiting Marquette came back from 16 points down in the second half to defeat South Florida 59-58 on Wednesday night.

Jimmy Butler added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists for Marquette (15-9, 6-5 Big East), which trailed 44-28 with 14:24. Crowder’s 3-pointer gave the Golden Eagles a 59-55 lead and the Bulls could not recover despite six straight misses at the foul line by Marquette.

Crowder made four of his five 3-point attempts.

Toarlyn Fitzpatrick had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead USF (8-17, 2-10), which struggled with Marquette’s full-court pressure in the second half and finished with 18 turnovers overall.

USF shot it well in the first half (13 of 19, 4 of 7 from 3-point range) and slowed down Marquette’s high-powered offense.

Fitzpatrick led the Bulls with eight points the first 20 minutes. USF pushed its lead as high as 27-16, but Marquette made its final three shots to close within 31-24 at halftime. It was still a season low for points in the first half for the Golden Eagles.
