Kyle Singler scored 22 points and Nolan Smith added 21 as No. 5 Duke took control early and held off Maryland 80-62 on Wednesday night in College Park, Md.

Duke (20-2, 7-1 ACC) raced to a 15-point first half lead before Maryland (14-8, 4-4 ACC) closed with a 10-2 run over the final 4:14 to trim the Blue Devils' halftime advantage to 40-33.

Smith, who leads the ACC in scoring and assists, and Singler, who passed Danny Ferry into fifth place on Duke’s all-time scoring list, scored the first 16 points of the second half for the Blue Devils, including 11 straight by Singler to keep the Terrapins at bay.

Duke, which shot 53 percent from the field, rebounded nicely after a non-conference blowout loss at St. John’s on Sunday. The Blue Devils have now beaten the Terps eight of the last nine times they have met as Maryland saw its three-game ACC winning streak come to an end.

Mason Plumlee notched his fourth double-double of the season for Duke with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Andre Dawkins came off the bench to add 11 points.

Maryland was led by Jordan Williams, who notched his NCAA-best 19th double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
