Jae Crowder had a career-high 29 points, leading Marquette to a 79-74 victory over West Virginia in a wild affair Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisc.

Neither team could seize control for long in a second half that featured six ties and 10 lead changes. Marquette (10-4, 1-0 Big East) led by five, 73-68, after a 3-pointer by Darius Johnson-Odom and a tip-in from Crowder, but the Mountaineers came back with six straight points, taking a 74-73 lead on a breakaway layup by Darryl Bryant with 1:44 to go.

Chris Otule's dunk at the 1:19 mark put the Golden Eagles back on top by one, however, and the home club was able to hold on with a couple of key defensive stops — including a key steal by Crowder that led to an intentional foul with 35 seconds remaining.

Johnson-Odom finished with 21 points for Marquette, while Bryant paced West Virginia (8-4, 0-2) with 25 points.
