Rutgers used a 14-6 run in the final 7:53 on Thursday night to rally past intrastate foe Saint Peter’s 55-52 in Piscataway, N.J. The win was the sixth straight for Rutgers (9-2), which remained unbeaten in seven home games, while Saint Peter’s (7-5) saw its five-game win streak come to an end.

Mike Poole came off the bench to lead Rutgers with 14 points, matching his career high. Gilvydas Biruta chipped in with 11 points while Dane Miller added seven to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Steven Samuels equaled a career-high for Saint Peter’s with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Darius Conley added 12 points and six rebounds for the Peacocks, who led 32-26 at halftime.

Saint Peter’s would eventually build their lead to 40-28 after a Conley basket with 16:29 remaining before Rutgers turned up the defensive pressure and Saint Peter’s went cold from the field.

Conley’s conventional three-point play with 8:12 remaining gave Saint Peter’s a 46-41 lead, before Rutgers stormed back as it held the Peacocks to just two field goals the rest of the way.
