Preston Knowles had 24 points and nine rebounds as No. 21 Louisville bounced back from its first loss by hammering Gardner-Webb 78-49 on Saturday.

Gorgui Dieng added eight points and 11 boards and Mike Marra scored 10 off the bench for the Cardinals (9-1).

After starting slowly and failing to generate any offense in the loss to Drexel on Tuesday, Louisville jumped out fast on Saturday. The Cardinals shot 50 percent in the first half and outrebounded the Runnin’ Bulldogs 25-10 as they took a 39-25 lead into the locker room.

The Cardinals play their first road game of the season at Western Kentucky on Wednesday, then come home for two more before the Big East slate kicks off.

Laron Buggs scored 16 for Gardner-Webb (6-8).
