Jonathan Mitchell added 14 and six for the Scarlet Knights (6-2), who have three straight games against small-conference schools before a final pre-conference tuneup against North Carolina on December 28. They begin Big East play at Villanova on January 2.

Rutgers took a 29-24 lead into the break despite shooting 28 percent (9-of-32) in the first half. James Beatty hit 3-of-4 from long range in the first 20 minutes and the Scarlet Knights took control of the backboards, grabbing 24 rebounds - 12 offensive.

It was more of the same in the second half, as Rutgers finished with a 41-26 rebounding advantage and was never seriously threatened.

The Tigers (3-5) get another date with a Big East school on Wednesday when they visit South Florida and then have five straight home games before opening SEC play with LSU on January 8.
