DeVoe Joseph hit a 3-pointer at just the right time, fueling Minnesota's 83-73 win over St. Joseph's Wednesday at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia.

The Golden Gophers held a slim lead late in the second half, before Joseph’s triple with 3:51 remaining sparked a late Minnesota run.

Minnesota (9-1) held a 10-point 36-26 lead at the half, with a strong Gophers defense limiting St. Joseph’s to 9-of-39 shooting (23.1 percent) from the field. Although St. Joseph’s (3-7) improved in the second half, it still finished 25-of-69 (36.2 percent) from the floor.

Five Gopher players were in double figures. Joseph led the way with 19 points, and Blake Hoffarber hit four threes to finish with 14 points. Trevor Mbakwe recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, and Ralph Sampson III and Maurice Walker each scored 10 points.

Carl Jones contributed 29 points, five rebounds and six assists for St. Joseph’s, and Langston Galloway added 21 points, four rebounds and seven steals.
