Freshman Corey Joseph and Jordan Hamilton led a 3-point barrage in the second half as No. 21 Texas rallied for a 62-59 victory over visiting Rice on Saturday afternoon.

The Longhorns (5-1) scored six consecutive baskets on 3-pointers - three by Joseph, two by Kai Lucas and one by Hamilton - to turn a 36-36 tie with 11:47 to play into a 56-51 lead with 3 1/2 minutes to play.

The Owls battled back on five free throws by Arsalan Kazemi and three by Tamir Jackson to cut the lead to three, and they had a chance to tie but Jackson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Arsalan scored 13 points and Jackson and Cory Pflieger added 12 each for Rice (3-3), which shot 41.2 percent and turned the ball over six times.

Joseph scored 11 of his 14 points after intermission, connected on 4-of-6 shots from the arc and finished with three assists. Hamilton scored all 13 of his points in the second half and was 4-of-8 from the arc, as Texas shot 11-of-25 on 3-pointers and just 9-of-24 on 2-pointers.

Texas looked like it was going to romp over Rice in the first 10 minutes, taking a 19-6 lead. The Horns made seven of their first 13 shots, but they sank just one of 11 as the Owls regrouped for a 23-20 halftime lead.
