Verdell Jones III scored 24 points and Indiana used hot shooting and an early second-half surge to put away a 100-66 victory over Northwestern State on Friday evening in Bloomington, Ind.

Jones hit 7 of 11 shots from the field and 10 of 11 foul shots, adding a team-high seven assists. Christian Watford added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Hoosiers, who shot 56.3 percent from the field in closing their season-opening home stand with a 6-0 record.

Northwestern State (3-3) led for much of the first half before a 9-2 spurt gave the Hoosiers a 33-26 lead with 3:32 to go in the period. Jordan Hulls hit a three-pointer coming out of the break, setting off a 14-3 Indiana run that made it 52-33 with 14:44 remaining. The Demons could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way.

Four other Indiana players scored in double figures, led by Maurice Creek’s 14 points. Devon Baker led Northwestern State in defeat with 24 points off the bench.
