The Islanders (1-2) shot with more accuracy overall, from the 3-point line and at the foul line, hanging with the Cowboys (2-0) through most of the game. Oklahoma State used second-chance buckets to take control and pulled ahead on free throws late.

Forward Marshall Moses led OSU with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Guard Ray Penn came off the bench and was nearly flawless from the field, making six of his seven shots for 17 points of his own.

Guard Terence Jones led the Islanders with 18 points.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tied the game with 11:15 to play, and had Oklahoma State within four points with 3:30 on the clock. But the Islanders had to foul in an effort to regain possession, and the Cowboys hit their free throws.

Oklahoma State’s next game will be Sunday, when it hosts Nicholls State.
