Joel Embiid scored 17 points, and Ben Simmons flirted with a triple-double as the surging Philadelphia 76ers drummed the host Orlando Magic 118-98 Thursday at Amway Center.

Simmons scored six points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists for the 76ers, who have won five in a row to climb into fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. It was Simmons' 20th game with at least 10 assists.

Ersan Illyasova scored 18 points off the bench, and Robert Covington added 15 points for Philadelphia.

The Sixers hung 70 on the Magic in the first half. Embiid had a dunk and a 3-pointer in the final two minutes of the second quarter as Philadelphia closed out the half with a 12-0 run.

The 76ers poured it on in the second half, opening the third quarter with a 21-8 run, fueled by three 3-pointers from Covington. Philadelphia took a 95-65 lead into the fourth quarter.

Rodney Purvis had 19 points off the bench to lead Orlando. Aaron Gordon finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Bismack Biyombo added 14 points for the Magic who have lost three in a row and eight of nine.

J.J. Redick had 12 points, and Dario Saric had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the 76ers, who are in a good rhythm as the playoffs approach.

Philadelphia is almost certainly headed to the postseason for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign and is in position to earn home-court advantage.

The 76ers have a shot to move up the standings even more in the final three weeks of the regular season. With 11 games remaining, Philadelphia trails third-place Cleveland by only 1.5 games and has a favorable remaining schedule. Seven of their final 11 games are against teams with losing records.

Orlando hosts Phoenix on Saturday.

The 76ers return to Philadelphia to open a three-game homestand against Minnesota on Saturday.
