Deron Williams scored 23 points to lead all five starters in double figures and added eight assists Wednesday night as the Utah Jazz held off the visiting New Jersey Nets, 98-88.
Paul Millsap had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Al Jefferson added 16 and nine for the Jazz, who have won six of their last seven games.
Anthony Morrow scored 24 points and Devin Harris added 19 for the Nets, who won their last game against the Los Angeles Clippers to end a long drought against Western Conference teams. New Jersey fell to 1-1 on its four-game road trip.
New Jersey held a 25-24 lead after one period but Utah scored the first six points of the second quarter to take the lead for good. The Jazz led 53-47 at halftime and by as many as 13 points in the third period.
The Nets got within 91-86 with 4:22 to play but went scoreless for more than three minutes. Williams made four free throws in the final minute to seal it.
Raja Bell and Andrei Kirilenko scored 15 points apiece for Utah, which got just 10 points from its bench. Brook Lopez scored 17 points and Kris Humphries grabbed 15 rebounds for New Jersey.
