PITTSBURGH -- Jameson Taillon shrugged. He had no idea why Cincinnati's Billy Hamilton is a Pirates killer.

"I don't know. We have the same information that every other team does, and he seems to hit us well," Taillon, the Pittsburgh starter, said after Hamilton hit a three-run homer and scored twice in the Reds' 9-1 win on Tuesday night at PNC Park.

Hamilton -- who left the game for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning with what manager Bryan Price indicated was a left ankle injury -- is hitting .315 in 52 career games against Pittsburgh.

"Nothing against him, but it's probably more us not making pitches to him," Taillon said. "If you look at where those pitches are that he's hitting, I'm guessing us pitchers aren't too happy."

Cincinnati, on the whole, continued its mastery of the Pirates. The Reds (43-63) are 7-1 against Pittsburgh (51-55) this season.

Hamilton had help.

Jesse Winker, fresh from Triple-A Louisville, hit his first major league homer. Jose Peraza had three hits and a RBI for Cincinnati, which pounded out 14 hits and won its second game in a row.

Adam Frazier had three of Pittsburgh's seven hits.

Homer Bailey (3-5) made another strong start at PNC Park, where he is 6-2 in his career. He halted a three-game losing streak overall, giving up one run and four hits in six innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

Bailey, though, wasn't thrilled with his game.

"Tucker (Barnhart, the catcher) really pushed me through that one today," Bailey said. "I had to follow his lead and go one at a time. It was good to get that kind of run support."

Taillon (6-5) had his second straight rough outing despite hitting the upper 90s on his pitches at times. He piled up 90 pitches in 3 2/3 innings, giving up eight runs and 11 hits, including two homers, while walking three and striking out two.

That came on the heels of a 10-run, nine-hit, three-inning performance July 25 in an 11-3 loss at San Francisco.

"We'll try peeling back some more of the layers," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "We started last time. That's one outing. You run through a checklist. Two outings, I think we need to revisit the checklist.

"The sequences were inconsistent. You see the velocity. The command isn't what we've grown accustomed to seeing out of him."

Cincinnati scored in the first inning. Hamilton led off with a triple and, after Winker walked, scored on Joey Votto's fielder's choice.

The Pirates tied it 1-1 in their half of the first. Starling Marte was hit on the left arm by a Bailey pitch, stole second, moved to third on Andrew McCutchen's infield single and scored on Josh Bell's single to right.

That was as generous as Bailey got.

"An important outing by Homer," Price said. "In the first inning, he wasn't sharp and they scored. He just didn't look real crisp. The command wasn't great.

"He kind of got into the flow of the game and ended giving us six really valuable innings."

After Pittsburgh tied it, the Reds responded with four runs in the second on Barnhart's RBI single and Hamilton's one-out homer to right.

Winker hit a two-out, 0-1 breaking ball from Taillon into the seats in right-center field for a 7-1 lead in the fourth.

"I kept it simple," said Winker, who arrived at the ballpark within an hour of game time and finished 1-for-4 with a walk.

"I didn't really have time to think about anything other than I knew Taillon was pitching. I had some ABs against him last year in Triple-A. I remembered what he threw against me. I knew he had a big curveball, and then I kind of went from there."

The Reds added another run in the fourth inning, chasing Taillon on Scooter Gennett's RBI single -- Cincinnati's fourth straight hit -- to make it 8-1.

Marte saved a couple of runs when he ended the Reds' fifth by leaping and reaching over the left field wall to rob Winker of what would have been his second homer.

"That play was incredible," Winker said. "I was kind of shocked that he caught it and brought it back. I was kind of hoping there'd be a Reds fan in there or something."

Eugenio Suarez hit his 17th homer to lead off the ninth to make it 9-1.

Reds relievers Blake Wood, Drew Storen and Kevin Shackelford each gave up one Pirates hit while throwing one scoreless inning apiece.

NOTES: Pittsburgh 2B Josh Harrison, who jammed his left leg on a play at first Sunday, was not in the starting lineup. ... Cincinnati OF Phillip Ervin was recalled from Triple-A Louisville. ... Reds RF Scott Schebler (left shoulder strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list only about an hour before the game. ... The Pirates opened an eight-game homestand.
