Blue Jays 7, Rays 5:
Edwin Encarnacion delivered a three-run double in the seventh inning and R.A. Dickey was solid through a season-high eight innings as Toronto took the opener of a three-game set from visiting Tampa Bay.

The Blue Jays held a pair of two-run leads early in the contest, but it was knotted at 3 in the seventh when Josh Lueke (0-1) walked the bases loaded. Encarnacion made the right-hander pay for the wildness by ripping an 0-1 splitter into the left-field corner for a bases-clearing double.

Dickey (4-5) was charged with three runs (two earned) and four hits. Brett Lawrie and Munenori Kawasaki each added an RBI triple, Melky Cabrera doubled in a run and Adam Lind chipped in a sacrifice fly for Toronto.

The Blue Jays got to rookie Jake Odorizzi for a pair of runs in the first and made it 3-1 in the second on Cabrera’s RBI double. The Rays pulled even in the third when Evan Longoria waited on a knuckleball and ripped it to the right-field wall for a two-run double.

Toronto tacked on an insurance run in the eighth and held off a rally in the ninth. Yunel Escobar hit a two-run homer to chop the deficit to 7-5 and the next two batters reached before Casey Janssen struck out Ben Zobrist to end the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Odorizzi made his season debut for the Rays and allowed three runs in five innings. One of the key pieces coming over from Kansas City in the trade that sent James Shields away in the off-season, Odorizzi was taking over the rotation spot vacated by the disabled David Price. … Toronto recalled OF Anthony Gose from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned RHP Mickey Storey. Gose entered as a defensive replacement and went 0-for-1. … Longoria went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
