Pirates 12, Giants 8: Starling Marte had four hits and scored four runs and Andrew McCutchen added three hits and three RBIs as host Pittsburgh notched its fourth victory in five games.

Francisco Liriano (5-2) gave up four runs on eight hits in six innings, but got plenty of offensive support. Alex Presley and Neil Walker homered as the Pirates banged out 18 hits, getting three hits each from Jordy Mercer and Gaby Sanchez.

San Francisco starter Barry Zito (4-5) was pounded for eight runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Joaquin Arias finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Giants.

Tied at 4 entering the fifth, Pittsburgh took control on Russell Martin’s run-scoring groundout, Pedro Alvarez’s double and Walker’s two-run single to right to make it 8-4. Presley homered in the sixth and Walker’s double to right in the seventh was ruled a homer after video review as the Pirates built an 11-6 advantage.

Tony Abreu went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Buster Posey drove in a pair for San Francisco.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Liriano only struck out two hitters but threw 57 of his 91 pitches for strikes. … Abreu started at second base for Marco Scutaro, who was hit in the left hand with a pitch Tuesday. … San Francisco finished with 15 hits.
