Hunter Pence drove in five runs and Hector Sanchez homered as visiting San Francisco erupted for a season high in runs scored and won the opener of the three-game series.

San Francisco and Miami entered the game as the two lowest scoring teams in the majors since the All-Star break, but combined for 35 hits in the 3-hour, 43-minute slugfest. Pablo Sandoval went 4-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs for the Giants, who collected a season-high 19 hits.

The Giants scored four runs in the first off Nathan Eovaldi (2-3) and led 7-0 in the second when Pence doubled in two runs and Sandoval followed with an RBI single. Eovaldi was charged with career highs of 11 runs (nine earned) and 12 hits over three-plus innings.

Justin Ruggiano belted two homers and had four RBIs for Miami, which cut the deficit to 7-4 with four runs in the third before San Francisco answered with a five-run fourth inning. Sanchez delivered the key blow with his second three-run homer in as many games.

Christian Yelich and Donovan Solano had three hits apiece for the Marlins, who cut the lead to 12-9 after scoring four runs in the fifth. Giants reliever Sandy Rosario (3-0) tossed two scoreless innings for the win after starter Chad Gaudin allowed eight runs on 11 hits over four innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: After not recording more than three extra-base hits in their last 27 games, the Giants matched a season high with eight Friday. … San Francisco 1B Brandon Belt went 4-for-6 with an RBI and came within a home run of hitting for the cycle while extending his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games. … Marlins 3B Placido Polanco left the game after being hit in the helmet by a Santiago Casilla fastball in the eighth inning. Polanco was able to walk off the field under his own power.
