Dodgers 2, Padres 1: Yasiel Puig had two hits and threw out a runner to end the game in his major-league debut while Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke delivered solo homers for host Los Angeles.

Puig caught a deep fly ball in right and threw to first to nail Chris Denorfia for the third out to secure the first major-league victory for Stephen Fife (1-0), who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to make the start and yielded one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Brandon League earned his 12th save in 15 chances.

Chase Headley had an RBI single for the Padres, who lost for the first time in four games at Dodger Stadium this season. Eric Stults (4-5) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings while recording the third quality start in his last four turns.

Gonzalez drove a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall with two outs in the first inning for his eighth homer, while Van Slyke's fifth came on an 0-1 pitch leading off the second. Puig, a 22-year-old Cuban who was called up from Double-A Chattanooga, batted leadoff and singled to center field in his first at-bat.

San Diego's Carlos Quentin (shoulder injury) did not play in the first game in which he was eligible against Los Angeles since he broke Zack Greinke's collarbone during a benches-clearing brawl April 11 in San Diego. Quentin missed a three-game series with the Dodgers while serving an eight-game suspension.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Prior to the game, the Dodgers placed LF Carl Crawford on the 15-day disabled list - retroactive to Sunday - with a hamstring injury. Fife took his spot on the roster as the Dodgers have used the disabled list a major league-leading 17 times this season. ... Padres 1B Yonder Alonso did not play and has missed the last three games after being hit by a pitch on the right hand Friday. ... Los Angeles LHP Chris Capuano (1-4, 5.45 ERA) was scheduled to start Monday but was scratched with a sore triceps muscle in his pitching arm.
