Dodgers 3, Pirates 0: Zack Greinke tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings in his Dodgers debut as host Los Angeles took the opener of the three-game series.

Greinke, who signed the richest deal by a right-handed pitcher in league history during the off-season, allowed two hits, struck out six and didn’t issue a walk. Greinke (1-0) gave up an infield single to Garrett Jones in the second inning and a line drive single by Andrew McCutchen in the seventh before he was lifted.

Andre Ethier homered to right with two outs in the second inning for the game’s first run. The home run off Pirates starter Jonathan Sanchez (0-1) was the first by a position player for the Dodgers this season.

The Dodgers tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning, getting back-to-back run-scoring doubles from Matt Kemp and Adrian Gonzalez. Kemp ended an 0-for-22 slump that dated to last season.

The Pirates, who have combined for six runs in their first four games, did not record a hit off Dodger relievers Paco Rodriguez, Kenley Jansen and Brandon League.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ethier came into the game hitless in his last 10 at-bats against Sanchez and 4-for-30 overall with 11 strikeouts. … The Dodgers improved to 29-7 in their last 36 home games against the Pirates. … Pirates C Russell Martin, who played his first five seasons with the Dodgers and the last two with the Yankees, went 0-for-2 and is hitless in his last 22 at-bats dating back to last season’s AL Championship Series against the Tigers.
