Astros 2, Rays 1: Jarred Cosart took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his major-league debut and outdueled David Price as visiting Houston held on to snap Tampa Bay’s eight-game winning streak.

Cosart (1-0) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out two over eight-plus innings for the victory, and Jose Veras notched his 18th save after giving up an unearned run in the ninth. Carlos Corporan delivered a two-run single in the first inning while Jake Elmore, J.D. Martinez and Matt Dominguez had two hits apiece for the Astros.

Luke Scott singled home Desmond Jennings, who had reached on an error, in the ninth before Veras ended it by striking out Evan Longoria looking with runners on the corners. Price (3-5) yielded two runs and eight hits with three strikeouts while not issuing a walk in his second straight complete game and the sixth of his career.

The Astros recorded four singles in the first inning, including Corporan’s one-out base hit up the middle that opened a 2-0 lead. Cosart, acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies in a package for Hunter Pence at the 2011 trade deadline, retired the first nine batters he faced before walking Jennings in the fourth.

Ben Zobrist, who also had a base hit in the ninth, broke up Cosart’s no-hit bid in the seventh with a one-out hard single to right field. The Astros turned four double plays - three with Cosart on the mound - while center fielder Brandon Barnes made a diving catch in the gap in right-center in the sixth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Price threw only 87 pitches, the least in a complete-game effort in club history. The left-hander threw 70 strikes. … Houston optioned OF Jimmy Paredes to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room on the roster for Cosart. …Tampa Bay SS Yunel Escobar extended his streak of errorless games to 50, two shy of the team record set by Chris Gomez.
