Tigers 9, Astros 0: Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Prince Fielder and three others homered as visiting Detroit completed a resounding four-game sweep.

The Tigers outscored Houston by a whopping 38-8 margin in the series to record their first four-game road sweep since May 2006. Verlander (4-2) did not give up a hit until Carlos Pena's single one out into the seventh. The star right-hander gave up one more hit before completing seven scoreless innings and finishing with nine strikeouts.

Fielder slugged a two-run homer off Houston starter Philip Humber (0-7) in the first and capped a five-run second with an RBI single. Brayan Pena smacked a two-run shot and Andy Dirks and Omar Infante both had solo shots for Detroit, which has won nine of 10.

Humber was pounded for eight runs in four innings in becoming the majors' first seven-game loser. He gave up three home runs and walked three as his ERA ballooned to 8.82.

The Astros loaded the bases with one out in the eighth before Darin Downs struck out Chris Carter and Jason Castro to preserve the shutout, Detroit's second during its 9-1 surge. Houston has lost six straight and 10 of its last 11.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Verlander was looking to become the sixth pitcher in baseball history to record three no-hitters. He had one in 2007 and another in 2011. ... One day after homering twice and driving in six, Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera was one of two in Detroit's starting lineup who failed to record an RBI or run scored. ... C Carlos Corporan had one of Houston's four hits. He is 7-for-17 in his last four games.
