Red Sox 2, Rays 1:
Daniel Nava hit a two-run homer and Alfredo Aceves pitched six strong innings in a spot start as visiting Boston took the rubber game from Tampa Bay.

Jacoby Ellsbury singled and stole a pair of bases as the Red Sox picked up their fourth win in the last five games. Aceves (3-1), who was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket after scheduled starter Franklin Morales was pressed into duty in Monday’s 14-inning win, allowed one run and four hits.

Chris Archer (1-2) started for the Rays and allowed a two-out single to Ellsbury in the third in front of Nava, who fouled off five straight pitches before blasting a slider into the stands in right field. Archer struck out seven but needed 103 pitches to get through four innings before being replaced.

Tampa Bay got a run back in the sixth, when Evan Longoria hit his third homer of the series to straightaway center field. Longoria had another chance with the tying run on second in the eighth but struck out.

Junichi Tazawa worked a perfect seventh, Craig Breslow and Koji Uehara combined on the eighth and Andrew Bailey bounced back from a blown save in Monday’s contest by working around a leadoff single for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and caught the Rays defense napping to pick up his first stolen base of the season. … Boston optioned RHP Jose De La Torre to Pawtucket to clear a roster spot for Aceves. … The Red Sox will continue their road trip at Baltimore on Thursday while Tampa Bay will welcome the Kansas City Royals to Tropicana Field for the start of a four-game set.
