Padres 3, Rockies 2: Will Venable's RBI single in the seventh inning snapped a tie and lifted host San Diego to its fifth win in six games.

Everth Cabrera went 2-for-2 and scored twice for the Padres, who clinched their third straight series win.

Cabrera, who scored the tying run in the fourth, led off the seventh with a single against Adam Ottavino (2-1), who immediately was replaced by Matt Reynolds. John Baker sacrificed Cabrera to second and Venable followed with a single to right field to give San Diego the lead.

Dale Thayer (2-2) retired all four batters he faced and All-Star Huston Street worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save in as many opportunities.

Colorado wasted little time getting on the board as Eric Young Jr. led off the game with a triple and scored on Marco Scutaro's single. San Diego answered in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly by Chase Headley, but the Rockies regained the lead in the second as Josh Rutledge hit a one-out infield single and raced home on D.J. LeMahieu's double.

The Padres pulled even in the fourth, when Cabrera drew a two-out walk, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Baker.

LeMahieu recorded two of the five hits by the Rockies, who have won just one of their last 13 series (1-11-1).

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego's Cameron Maybin was kept out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game due to a wrist injury. He entered in the eighth inning as a pinch runner and stole two bases. ... The Padres signed OF Carlos Quentin to a three-year, $27 million contract extension with a mutual option for 2016. The deal also includes a no-trade clause. ... One day after recording his first four-RBI performance in the major leagues, Rockies 3B Jordan Pacheco made his second career start at catcher. ... Colorado 1B Todd Helton may not be activated from the disabled list when he is eligible on Tuesday as his right hip remained sore after a collision during a rehab game with Grand Junction of the Pioneer League on Saturday.
