Torii Hunter lined a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning as host Los Angeles remained two games behind the Oakland Athletics for the American League’s second wild-card spot.

Pinch hitter Maicer Izturis led off the ninth with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch by Stephen Pryor (3-1) and was sacrificed to third by Peter Bourjos. Mike Trout was walked intentionally before Hunter delivered the decisive single to center field.

Erick Abyar’s two-run double in the second gave Los Angeles an early lead before Seattle tied the score in the third on a run-scoring single by Brendan Ryan and a sacrifice fly by Franklin Gutierrez.

Justin Smoak gave Seattle a 3-2 lead in the fourth with his third homer in two nights. The Angels tied the contest in the seventh on Hunter’s RBI single over the head of Mariners second baseman Dustin Ackley.

Seattle ace Felix Hernandez struck out nine in six innings and gave up two runs and five hits. Angels starter C.J. Wilson allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Ernesto Frieri (4-2) pitched a scoreless ninth for Los Angeles.
