Rookie Mark Trumbo belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a dramatic 2-1 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Thursday.

Torii Hunter led off the ninth with a single and Trumbo sent a blast narrowly inside the left-field line off Texas reliever Mike Adams (1-2) to break Los Angeles’ five-game losing streak.

Mike Napoli homered in the seventh off former teammate Jered Weaver for Texas, which saw its six-game winning streak snapped. The Rangers lead the Angels by six games in the American League West.

Trumbo’s 23rd homer of the season allowed Los Angeles to salvage the final contest of the four-game series.

Colby Lewis allowed just four hits over seven innings for the Rangers. Lewis struck out seven and walked two.

Weaver allowed one run and six hits in seven innings. Weaver struck out five and walked one.

Horacio Ramirez (1-0) got the final out of the top of the ninth for Los Angeles.

Napoli’s homer to left-center field was his 20th of the season.

Elvis Andrus went 3-for-3 while Weaver was in the contest and is 10-for-14 against the Angels’ ace this season.

Hunter’s ninth-inning single extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
