Alexi Ogando carried a shutout into the seventh inning as the Texas Rangers held off the visiting Kansas City Royals 3-1 Saturday night.

Ogando (3-0) was in control from the start, keeping the Royals off the scoreboard until Kila Ka'aihue's solo home run to lead off the seventh inning. Ogando departed after the blast, surrendering five hits while striking out five and walking one as Texas (13-7) won its second straight game.

Cody Eppley tossed two scoreless innings in his major-league debut and Darren Oliver worked the ninth for his first save of the season.

The Rangers did their damage early, opening the scoring in the second inning on a Mitch Moreland RBI double off losing pitcher Kyle Davies (1-2). Texas expanded the lead in the third on an Adrian Beltre sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single by Nelson Cruz.

Michael Young extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a pair of singles. He's hitting .434 (23-for-53) in that span.

Davies was charged with three runs - two earned - on four hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out three.
