Jose Tabata drove in both runs, including the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning, to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.

Tabata plated Xavier Paul, who singled with two outs off Danys Baez (1-3) and stole second to get in position to score the winning run. Daniel Moskos (1-0) earned his first major league victory with one inning of scoreless relief.

Philadelphia has scored just four runs in losing its last three games.

The ending overshadowed a brilliant pitching duel between Philadelphia's Cole Hamels and Pittsburgh's Jeff Karstens.

Hamels yielded just one hit in eight innings, striking out four and walking three. He set down the first 11 batters before Andrew McCutchen's two-out single in the fourth inning.

Karstens had his longest outing of the season, allowing one run on four hits in seven innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batter. It was the 14th time in the last 15 games that a Pittsburgh starter yielded two earned runs or fewer.

Philadelphia broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the sixth when Chase Utley's two-out single plated Jimmy Rollins.

The Pirates answered in the bottom of the inning. Ronny Cedeno walked, went to second on a sacrifice by Karstens, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tabata's sacrifice fly.
